SPECIAL EPISODE: The Messiness of Grief After Facing a Loss

When we lose a loved one, the pain we experience can feel overwhelming, confusing, and truly unbearable. With such a roller coaster of emotional responses, we can find ourselves wondering if the pain will ever end. Add to that the fact that grief is messy, complicated, and extremely personal: Those messy emotional experiences just can’t be tucked into neat, linear stages.

But they can be recognized and worked through as we learn to live and cope with a loss.

The first step may very well be recognizing that the feelings we have are fairly common, fairly normal, and mostly temporary in the healing journey, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

In this special, extended edition of Stick the Landing, I cover the most common responses to grief. My goal is to help you learn to recognize those responses so that you can, hopefully, stop criticizing yourself for “not doing grief right” just because your grief seems messier than someone else’s.

If this episode helps you in some way, please share it with others who are wrestling with the messiness of grief after a loss.
