Every year, me and my sons watch the 1996 movie Independence Day starring Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum. It’s a fun tradition that we just never get tired of. But there is one scene in the movie that always used to confuse me. After the alien ship blows up Los Angeles, there’s a scene where Jasmine, played by Vivica A. Fox, is surveying the aftermath. Everything is leveled and charred. Everything, that is, except two tall palm trees. That scene didn’t make any sense until I read about an ancient battle that ended in ‘similar’ fashion.
And then it all made sense: Palm trees are even more awesome than I thought! We all need to be more like palm trees.
